七步检查法
The pre-trip inspection follows a fixed seven-step routine so no system gets missed. The on-road Vehicle Inspection Test is scored on it — and the whole thing is spoken: at each safety-critical part you name it, point to or touch it, and say exactly what you are checking it for. Silently looking at a part earns no credit.
分步检查
- 1
Step 1 — Vehicle Overview: review the last vehicle inspection report, then walk up and note the general condition, any lean to one side, and fresh oil, coolant, grease or fuel leaks under the truck.
- 2
Step 2 — Check the Engine Compartment: with the parking brake on and/or wheels chocked, check fluids, belts, hoses, leaks and wiring under the hood.
- 3
Step 3 — Start the Engine and Inspect the Cab: start safely, then check gauges, controls, mirrors, windshield, wipers, horn, heater/defroster and emergency equipment.
- 4
Step 4 — Turn Off the Engine and Check the Lights: set the parking brake, turn off the engine, turn on headlights (low beam) and four-way flashers, then get out to check them.
- 5
Step 5 — Do the Walkaround Inspection: walk around the vehicle checking steering, suspension, brakes, wheels and tires, lights and reflectors, fuel and exhaust, frame, and the coupling on a combination vehicle.
- 6
Step 6 — Check the Signal Lights: turn on the right turn signal and walk around to confirm turn signals and brake lights work, then return and switch to the left.
- 7
Step 7 — Start the Engine and Check: do the in-cab brake system / air-brake check and confirm gauges read normal and the vehicle is road-ready.关键
自动挂科与必做要点
- You must NAME, point to or touch, and fully EXPLAIN the defect you are checking for on every safety-critical item — silent looking earns no credit.
- The air brake (or hydraulic brake) check is an AUTOMATIC FAILURE if it is not explained and demonstrated correctly.
- Set the parking brake and/or chock the wheels before opening the hood or getting under the vehicle.
常见错误
- Looking at parts silently instead of saying the part name and the defect you are checking for.
- Skipping or rushing the air-brake check (an automatic fail).
- Doing the areas out of order and missing a system.
- Forgetting to set the parking brake / chock the wheels before the engine-compartment step.
为什么重要
A commercial vehicle can weigh 80,000 lb, so a missed defect — a worn brake lining, a cracked frame, a leaking air line — can cause a crash or put the truck out of service. The seven-step order guarantees every system is looked at, and speaking each check out loud proves to the examiner (and to yourself) that you actually inspected it.
