Cómo hacer Baño en cama modificado (cara y un brazo)

The modified bed bath washes only the face and one arm, hand, and underarm, but it drills the two habits every bath needs: check the water and keep the client covered, then wash clean-to-dirty (eyes first, no soap, inner corner outward, a fresh area of the cloth for each stroke).

Paso a paso

  1. 1

Explain the procedure while facing the client, speaking clearly, slowly, and directly.

  2. 2

Provide privacy with a curtain, screen, or door.

  3. 3

Remove the gown into the soiled-linen container while keeping the client's chest and lower body covered.

  4. 4

Check the water temperature for safety and comfort and ask the client to confirm it feels comfortable.Crítico

  5. 5

Put on clean gloves before washing the client.Crítico

  6. 6

Wash the eyes first with a wet, soap-free washcloth, moving inner corner to outer, using a different area of the cloth for each stroke, then wash the rest of the face.Crítico

  7. 7

Dry the face with a dry towel/washcloth.

  8. 8

Expose one arm and lay a cloth towel underneath it.

  9. 9

Apply soap to the wet washcloth.

  10. 10

Wash the fingers (including fingernails), hand, arm, and underarm, keeping the rest of the body covered.Crítico

  11. 11

Rinse and dry the fingers, hand, arm, and underarm.

  12. 12

Move the body gently and naturally, avoiding force or over-extension of limbs and joints.

  13. 13

Put a clean gown on the client.

  14. 14

Empty, rinse, and dry the basin and place it in the designated dirty-supply area.

  15. 15

Dispose of linen in the soiled-linen container without letting used linen touch your clothing.

  16. 16

Remove and discard gloves without contaminating yourself, wash your hands, and leave the signaling device within reach with the bed low.Crítico

Pasos críticos (no los omitas)

  • Check the water temperature AND have the client verify comfort before any washing.
  • Wash the eyes first with NO soap, inner corner to outer, a clean area of the cloth for each stroke.
  • Keep the client covered throughout; expose only the arm being washed.
  • Wash the fingernails and fingers together with the hand, arm, and underarm.
  • Remove gloves without self-contamination and wash hands to finish.

Errores comunes

  • Using soap on the eyes or reusing the same area of the washcloth across strokes.
  • Overexposing the client instead of uncovering only the arm being washed.
  • Washing the whole body instead of just the face and one arm/hand/underarm.
  • Skipping the water-temperature check and client confirmation.

Por qué importa

Bathing order follows infection-control logic: the eyes and face are cleanest, so they are washed first with no soap and a fresh cloth area each stroke to avoid dragging debris across the eye or from a dirtier area back to a cleaner one. Verifying the water and keeping the client covered protect against burns, chilling, and loss of dignity, which is why examiners score the temperature check and the 'only expose the arm being washed' rule.
