Provides Mouth Care — 방법
Mouth care keeps teeth, gums, and tongue clean and prevents pneumonia-causing bacteria from building up. The one idea that ties it together: fluid must never pool at the back of the throat. Sit a cooperative client upright (75-90 degrees), and for a dependent or unconscious client turn the head to the side so water and secretions drain out instead of being aspirated.

필수 단계 (놓치지 마세요)
- Never lay a client flat for oral care: sit them upright, or for a dependent client turn the head to the side so fluid drains and cannot be aspirated.
- Gloves go on before the mouth is touched.
- Clean the tongue and every tooth surface, using gentle motions.
- Hold the emesis basin at the chin during rinsing so fluid is caught, not swallowed.
- Remove gloves without self-contamination, then wash hands.
흔한 실수
- Providing mouth care with the client lying flat or reclined, risking aspiration.
- Forgetting the chest towel/clothing protector before brushing.
- Skipping the tongue or missing tooth surfaces.
- Applying toothpaste to a dry brush instead of a moistened one.
왜 중요한가
The mouth constantly generates secretions, and a dependent client cannot clear them; if the head is not upright or turned to the side, water and saliva run to the back of the throat and can be inhaled into the lungs, causing aspiration pneumonia. Every positioning and rinsing step exists to keep fluid moving OUT of the mouth, which is why examiners score the upright/side position and the chin-held basin so heavily.
