Minnesota's DVS Class D written knowledge test is offered as a computerized test in 7 languages — English, Spanish, Hmong, Karen, Vietnamese, Somali, and Russian — plus American Sign Language (ASL). For these languages the test itself is genuinely available in your language, not merely a study aid — a distinctive feature reflecting Minnesota's large Hmong, Karen, Somali, and Vietnamese refugee and immigrant communities. For any other language, you may bring your own interpreter who holds a valid Minnesota driver's license to read you the exam. Note, stated honestly: Chinese and Korean are not among the seven computerized-test languages, so a Chinese or Korean speaker would use study material as a study aid and take the official test in English or through a qualified interpreter. Since 2023, under Minnesota's Driver's License for All law, residents can obtain a license regardless of immigration status, and non-English knowledge testing (especially Spanish) has risen sharply.
