Cách kiểm tra Lights & Reflectors
Steps 4 and 6 of the seven-step method. You check the front lights with the engine off, then the signal lights separately. Every required light must work, be the correct color and be clean — name each one and say what you are checking for.

Turn the headlights on (low beam) and the four-way flashers on, then turn off the engine and get out.

Headlights: both low beams work; then check the high beams.

Four-way (hazard) flashers: working at the front and rear.
- 4
Clearance, marker, identification and reflector lights/reflectors: present, clean, correct color (amber to the front/side, red to the rear), not broken.

Turn off the four-way flashers.
- 6
Turn on the right turn signal and walk around: the front and rear right turn signals work and are the correct color.

Cancel the right signal, turn on the left turn signal, and check both left signals.
- 8
Confirm the brake lights come on when the brake is applied, and the tail lights work.

- Name each light and say what you check for (works, correct color, clean, not broken) — silent looking earns no credit.
- Correct color: white or amber to the front and side, red to the rear (tail, brake, turn).
- A required lamp that does not work, or a wrong-color/broken lens, is a defect — and can be a CVSA out-of-service item at night. Don't forget reflectors and reflective tape.

- Checking only the headlights and forgetting turn signals, brake lights, or four-way flashers.
- Missing reflectors and reflective tape (they are part of the check, not just lamps).
- Not confirming the correct color for the position (amber front, red rear).
- Not walking around to verify both sides and the rear.

Lights are how a large, slow truck tells everyone else what it is about to do. A dead brake light or turn signal, or a dirty/wrong-color lens, hides the truck's size and intentions — a leading cause of nighttime crashes — so every required lamp and reflector is checked and any failure is reported.
