Loose Gravel sign

Loose Gravel Sign

MUTCD W8-7

Loose gravel is on the road ahead; slow down.

What it looks like

A yellow diamond-shaped warning sign with a black symbol or the legend LOOSE GRAVEL showing stones kicking up from a wheel.

When you'll see it

On roads recently surfaced with chip seal or where gravel has spread onto the pavement, common on rural and freshly maintained roads.

What to do

Slow down to keep control; loose gravel reduces traction and can be thrown by tires, so leave extra distance from vehicles ahead.
