🌐 Languages

New Jersey's MVC written knowledge test is officially offered in 13 languages: English, Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), French, Spanish, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Hindi, Albanian, and Turkish. Unlike some states (such as Georgia, which conducts the road-sign portion in English only), New Jersey does not split the knowledge test into separately-languaged sections — the whole written test is available in these languages, so for speakers of them these are genuine testing languages, not merely study aids. Note the following limits, stated honestly: the oral version of the test is offered only in English and Spanish; CDL knowledge tests are available only in English and Spanish (Hazmat endorsement testing is English-only); and — importantly — Vietnamese is not among New Jersey's 13 written-test languages, so a Vietnamese speaker would use Vietnamese study material as a study aid but take the official MVC test in one of the 13 languages above, or request an MVC-arranged, state-paid interpreter. The knowledge test is by appointment (scheduled at NJMVC.gov), not walk-in. [Source: nj.gov/mvc/license/knowledgetest.htm, checked 2026-07-14]
