πŸ’‘ Test Day Tips

  • β€’Hair care services (40%) and scientific concepts incl. infection control (35%) together are three-quarters of the exam β€” master decontamination levels, bloodborne-pathogen safety, and men's haircutting/tapering.
  • β€’Barber-specific topics β€” shaving with the grain, the standard shave, sanitizing the straight razor, and pseudofolliculitis barbae (razor bumps) β€” are heavily tested. Know when to refer an infectious condition (sycosis barbae, tinea) instead of servicing it.
  • β€’The real theory exam language varies by state. Use the Chinese/Spanish/Vietnamese/Korean explanations to learn, and learn the key English terms β€” several states (e.g. Florida, Pennsylvania, Arizona) give the written exam in English/Spanish only.
