Read the Mississippi Driver's Manual and take practice tests covering signs, rules of the road, and safe driving.

Visit a Driver Service Bureau
You can take the knowledge test for a learner's permit from age 15. Bring your documents and fee; the test is offered in English and Spanish.

Pass the vision and knowledge tests
Pass a vision screening, then the 30-question knowledge test (24 to pass). When you pass, you receive your learner's permit and enter Mississippi's graduated licensing.
π‘ Test Day Tips
- β’The Mississippi knowledge test has 30 questions; you must answer 24 correctly (80%) to pass.
- β’The legal BAC limit is 0.08 (0.04 for commercial drivers); drivers under 21 have a 0.02 zero-tolerance limit.
- β’Never cross a solid double yellow line to pass; you may cross a broken yellow line to pass only when the oncoming lane is clear and it is safe.
- β’Mississippi has a 'squatted vehicle' law: it is illegal to modify a vehicle so the front is raised much higher than the rear beyond set limits.
- β’You must stop for a stopped school bus with flashing red lights; on an undivided road, traffic in BOTH directions must stop.
